Carlson symmetric forms
Builds on Elliptic integralImproper integral
Definition
Let be nonnegative real numbers, at most one of which is , and let . The Carlson symmetric forms are improper integrals. They are together with the special cases where for one takes and , and for one takes .
Remarks
The integrals converge: near the integrand of behaves like , and near at most one factor vanishes, which gives at worst . is symmetric in , in , and in . Example: for . Non-example: is not defined, since two arguments are and the integrand is not integrable at . With and , the complete elliptic integrals are is elementary; for it equals .
