Circle map

Summary

The circle map, or standard circle map, is the two-parameter family θ↦θ+Ω−K2πsin⁡(2πθ)\theta \mapsto \theta + \Omega - \frac{K}{2\pi} \sin(2\pi\theta) of maps of the circle ℝ/ℤ\R/\Z. It models a rotation by Ω\Omega disturbed by a nonlinear kick of strength KK. It is the basic model of mode locking: its rotation number locks to rational values on the Arnold tongues. For 0≤K<10 \le K < 1 it is a family of circle diffeomorphisms, and at K=1K = 1 it has a critical point.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
