Clenshaw–Curtis quadrature
Builds on Quadrature ruleChebyshev polynomials
Definition
Let and let for . For a continuous function on , let be the interpolating polynomial of degree at most with for all . The -point Clenshaw–Curtis quadrature rule is the quadrature rule where and is the Lagrange basis polynomial of the node .
Remarks
The nodes are the extreme points of the Chebyshev polynomial on . Writing gives , and is for even and for odd . The rule is exact for polynomials of degree at most , and of degree at most when is even, by symmetry.
Example: . The nodes are , and the interpolatory weights are . This is Simpson's rule; for it gives .
Non-example: the interpolatory rule at the equally spaced points is a Newton–Cotes rule, not a Clenshaw–Curtis rule, because its nodes are not of the form , which are .

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
