Complex sine and cosine

Builds on Complex exponential

Definition

For z∈ℂz \in \mathbb{C}, the complex sine and the complex cosine of zz are sin⁡z=eiz−e−iz2i,cos⁡z=eiz+e−iz2,\sin z = \frac{e^{iz} - e^{-iz}}{2i}, \qquad \cos z = \frac{e^{iz} + e^{-iz}}{2}, where ewe^w is the complex exponential of ww.

Remarks

For real zz, these are the usual sine and cosine, by Euler's formula. The functions sin⁡\sin and cos⁡\cos are entire, with sin⁡′=cos⁡\sin' = \cos and cos⁡′=−sin⁡\cos' = -\sin. The identity sin⁡2z+cos⁡2z=1\sin^2 z + \cos^2 z = 1 holds for each z∈ℂz \in \mathbb{C}. They are not bounded on ℂ\mathbb{C}. For real yy, cos⁡(iy)=cosh⁡y=ey+e−y2\cos(iy) = \cosh y = \frac{e^y + e^{-y}}{2}. The power series of the cosine is the same as in the real case.

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
