Domain of holomorphy
Builds on Holomorphic function of several variablesOpen setConnected set
Definition
Let be an open set. Then is a domain of holomorphy if there are no nonempty open sets such that:
- is connected and ;
- ;
- for every holomorphic function on there is a holomorphic function on with on .
Remarks
Example: every convex open set is a domain of holomorphy. For a boundary point there is a complex linear function with for all , and is holomorphic on and unbounded near . Suppose satisfied the three clauses, and let be a component of that meets . Since is connected and not contained in , it contains a boundary point of , and lies on the boundary of . The extension of equals on by the identity theorem, and is continuous at . So is bounded near on , which is a contradiction.
Non-example: . Take and . Clauses 1 and 2 hold, and clause 3 holds by Hartogs's extension theorem with .
Every open subset of is a domain of holomorphy.
