Envelope of holomorphy
Builds on Riemann domain over C^nHolomorphic function of several variablesHolomorphic map
Definition
Let be a domain, that is, a nonempty connected open set. A holomorphic extension of is a triple with two properties.
- is a Riemann domain over and is a holomorphic map with .
- For every holomorphic function on there is a holomorphic function on with .
An envelope of holomorphy of is a holomorphic extension of with the following property. For every holomorphic extension of there is a holomorphic map with and .
Remarks
The function in clause 2 is unique, because is connected and is a nonempty open subset of . Every domain has an envelope of holomorphy, and it is unique up to an isomorphism of Riemann domains compatible with the maps from . It can be built from the germs of holomorphic functions obtained from by analytic continuation.
Example: for the Hartogs figure in , the polydisc with the inclusion map is an envelope of holomorphy. Every holomorphic function on extends to ; and is a domain of holomorphy, which gives the maximality.
Non-example: for , the triple is a holomorphic extension but not an envelope. The extension given by the ball admits no map into over , since would have to be the identity on the ball.
A domain is a domain of holomorphy exactly when is its envelope of holomorphy.
