Definition
Let . The fine topology on is the coarsest topology on with the following property. For every open set and every superharmonic function on , the set belongs to and is continuous for . Sets in are called finely open, and limits and continuity for are called fine limits and fine continuity.
Remarks
The fine topology is finer than the Euclidean topology, since every Euclidean open set is finely open by definition. A set is finely open if and only if, for every , the complement is thin at . Example: let . The removed set is countable, hence a polar set, and a polar set is thin at every point. So is finely open, but it is not Euclidean open, because every ball about meets the removed points. Non-example: a closed half-space is not a fine neighbourhood of a point , since the complementary open half-space is not thin at .

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
