Fractional Laplacian

Summary

The fractional Laplacian (−Δ)s(-\Delta)^s, for 0<s<10 < s < 1, is a power of the operator −Δ-\Delta built from the Laplacian. It acts on the Fourier transform side as multiplication by ∣ξ∣2s\abs{\xi}^{2s}. Unlike the Laplacian, it is nonlocal: (−Δ)su(x)(-\Delta)^s u(x) depends on the values of uu everywhere. Its negative −(−Δ)s-(-\Delta)^s is the generator of the rotationally symmetric 2s2s-stable Lévy processes. It appears in models of anomalous diffusion, in the thin obstacle problem and in fractional calculus.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
