Hartogs domain

Builds on Open setConnected set

Definition

Let n≥2n \ge 2 and write a point of ℂn\C^n as (z′,zn)(z', z_n) with z′∈ℂn−1z' \in \C^{n-1} and zn∈ℂz_n \in \C. A Hartogs domain is a connected open set D⊆ℂnD \subseteq \C^n such that (z′,eiθzn)∈D(z', e^{i\theta} z_n) \in D for all (z′,zn)∈D(z', z_n) \in D and all θ∈ℝ\theta \in \R. It is a complete Hartogs domain if moreover (z′,λzn)∈D(z', \lambda z_n) \in D for all (z′,zn)∈D(z', z_n) \in D and all λ∈ℂ\lambda \in \C with ∣λ∣≤1\abs{\lambda} \le 1.

Remarks

Example: D={(z1,z2)∈ℂ2:∣z1∣<1, ∣z2∣<1−∣z1∣2}D = \set{(z_1, z_2) \in \C^2 : \abs{z_1} < 1, \ \abs{z_2} < 1 - \abs{z_1}^2}. It is open and connected, and the condition on z2z_2 involves only ∣z2∣\abs{z_2}. This number does not change under z2↦eiθz2z_2 \mapsto e^{i\theta} z_2, and it does not increase under z2↦λz2z_2 \mapsto \lambda z_2 with ∣λ∣≤1\abs{\lambda} \le 1. So DD is a complete Hartogs domain.

Non-example: D={(z1,z2)∈ℂ2:∣z1−z2∣<1}D = \set{(z_1, z_2) \in \C^2 : \abs{z_1 - z_2} < 1}. The point (1,1/2)(1, 1/2) lies in DD, but its rotation (1,−1/2)(1, -1/2) does not, since ∣1+1/2∣>1\abs{1 + 1/2} > 1.

The Hartogs figure is a Hartogs domain that is not complete. A Reinhardt domain is invariant under rotation of each coordinate separately, so it is a Hartogs domain in particular.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
