Example
A Hopf surface is a compact complex surface whose universal cover is biholomorphic to . It is primary if its fundamental group is infinite cyclic.
Example: let and with , the Hopf manifold of dimension . Since is homotopy equivalent to , it is simply connected, so it is the universal cover of , and .
Check that is a class VII surface. Its first Betti number is , since is diffeomorphic to . Its Kodaira dimension is . A section of with pulls back to with holomorphic on , hence, by Hartogs's extension theorem, on . Invariance under gives , so each Taylor coefficient of satisfies ; since , all vanish and .
Remarks
Kodaira showed that every primary Hopf surface is the quotient of by the infinite cyclic group generated by a holomorphic contraction that fixes . Every Hopf surface has and , so it is not Kähler. The function on the example above is invariant under , so it gives a nonconstant meromorphic function on . It also gives a map to whose fibres are elliptic curves, and this has algebraic dimension .
