Improper multiple integral
Builds on Double integralJordan measure
Summary
An improper multiple integral extends the Riemann integral to unbounded regions or unbounded functions. It is a limit of integrals over bounded regions where the function is bounded. For a non-negative function on that is Riemann integrable on each cube , the improper integral is , when this limit exists.
Remarks
For non-negative functions, the limit does not depend on the choice of the exhausting sequence of bounded sets. For functions of both signs one usually requires that is finite. Example: in polar coordinates, . Example with a singularity: is finite for and infinite for , by the same polar computation. An improper double integral can fail to exist even when both iterated integrals exist, if .
