Number theory Theorem

Irrationality of the square root of a prime

Builds on Irrational numberSquare root

Statement

Let pp be a prime number. Then p\sqrt{p} is an irrational number.

Remarks

This generalizes the irrationality of the square root of 2. More generally, the square root of a natural number nn is irrational unless nn is a perfect square. See the roots of integers.

Each page uses the pages above it. The colour of the bar on a box shows how strong the evidence is, and the box also gives it as text. The list has the same pages.
