Ordinary differential equations Example
Kuramoto model
Builds on Synchronization of chaos
Example
Let , let be a coupling strength, and let be natural frequencies. The Kuramoto model is the autonomous system for phases : Each oscillator turns at its own speed and is pulled towards the phases of the others.
For the phase difference satisfies If and , this equation has an equilibrium with . Then the two oscillators lock their phases at the difference and turn at the common speed . If , then always, and the phases drift apart.
Remarks
The degree of synchrony is measured by the order parameter , with . With it the equations become , so each oscillator couples only to the mean field. In the limit with frequencies drawn from a symmetric unimodal density , a partially synchronized state with appears when exceeds . For the Lorentzian density this gives , and the stationary order parameter is for .
Kuramoto introduced the model in 1975. It is the basic model of synchronization of oscillators in physics, chemistry and biology.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
