Laplace–Stieltjes transform
Summary
The Laplace–Stieltjes transform of a function on is , a Riemann–Stieltjes integral against instead of an ordinary integral of . It extends the Laplace transform: when has a density , it is the Laplace transform of . It also handles jumps of , that is, point masses. In probability, applied to the distribution function of a nonnegative random variable , it gives .
