Legendre functions

Summary

Legendre functions are the solutions of the general Legendre differential equation, which has two parameters, a degree ν\nu and an order μ\mu. The solutions of the first kind, PνμP_\nu^\mu, and of the second kind, QνμQ_\nu^\mu, are the standard basis of solutions. When μ=0\mu = 0 and ν\nu is a nonnegative integer, the first kind gives the Legendre polynomials. They arise when the Laplace equation or the Helmholtz equation is separated in spherical coordinates.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
