Definition

Let D⊆ℝnD \subseteq \mathbb{R}^n, let f ⁣:D→ℝf \colon D \to \mathbb{R} be a function of several variables, and let c∈ℝc \in \mathbb{R}. The level set of ff at the value cc is the set Lc(f)={x∈D:f(x)=c}.L_c(f) = \{x \in D : f(x) = c\}. It is the preimage f−1({c})f^{-1}(\{c\}) of the one-point set {c}\{c\}. For n=2n = 2 a level set is also called a level curve, and for n=3n = 3 it is also called a level surface.

Remarks

For f(x,y)=x2+y2f(x, y) = x^2 + y^2, the level set at c>0c > 0 is the circle of radius c\sqrt{c} about the origin. The level set at c=0c = 0 is the point (0,0)(0, 0), and the level set at c<0c < 0 is empty. The level sets of ff for different values of cc are disjoint, and their union is the domain DD. At a point where ff is differentiable with a nonzero gradient, the gradient is orthogonal to the level set. A level set of a function of two variables is a contour line of its graph.

Each page uses the pages above it. The colour of the bar on a box shows how strong the evidence is, and the box also gives it as text. The list has the same pages.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
