Definition
Let be an open set and let be a function of class (see smooth function). The Levi form of at a point is the Hermitian form It is also called the complex Hessian of .
Now let be a domain with boundary. A defining function of is a function on a neighbourhood of with and on . For , the complex tangent space of at is The Levi form of at is the restriction of to .
Remarks
Example: for the unit ball, has , so for every . Non-example of positivity: for the bidisc, near a boundary point with , a defining function is . Here , and , so the Levi form vanishes on . If is replaced by another defining function with , the Levi form of at is multiplied by . So its signature does not depend on the choice. The signature is also unchanged under holomorphic changes of coordinates.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
