Definition
Let be an integer, the modulus, and let , and be integers with , and . The linear congruential generator with multiplier , increment and seed is a pseudorandom number generator. Its state space is and its states are where is the modulo operation. Its outputs are the numbers . If it is called a multiplicative congruential generator, or Lehmer generator.
Remarks
Example: , , , . The states are , for instance ; all residues appear, so the period is . Non-example: is not a linear congruential generator, because the map is not of the form . The map is an affine map of the ring of integers modulo , so the period is at most . The Hull–Dobell theorem treats . The period equals for every seed if and only if three conditions hold. They are: and are coprime, every prime factor of divides , and divides if divides . In the example, and , so the conditions hold.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
