Liouville function

Builds on Number of prime factors counted with multiplicity

Definition

The Liouville function λ\lambda is the arithmetic function given by λ(n)=(−1)Ω(n)\lambda(n) = (-1)^{\Omega(n)} for each positive integer nn. Here Ω(n)\Omega(n) is the number of prime factors of n counted with multiplicity.

Remarks

For example, λ(1)=1\lambda(1) = 1, λ(12)=−1\lambda(12) = -1 and λ(36)=1\lambda(36) = 1. The function λ\lambda is completely multiplicative, since Ω\Omega is completely additive. The sum ∑d∣nλ(d)\sum_{d \mid n} \lambda(d) is 11 if nn is a perfect square, and 00 otherwise. On squarefree integers, λ\lambda agrees with the Möbius function.

What this page needs for W2

  • edge instance_of in: one example (0 of 1)
  • edge not_instance_of in: one non-example that fails one clause (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
