Möbius function of a poset

Summary

The Möbius function of a locally finite poset assigns an integer μ(x,y)\mu(x, y) to each pair x≤yx \le y, by the recursion μ(x,x)=1\mu(x, x) = 1 and ∑x≤z≤yμ(x,z)=0\sum_{x \le z \le y} \mu(x, z) = 0 for x<yx < y. It is the inverse of the zeta function in the incidence algebra. It drives Möbius inversion on posets, which contains inclusion–exclusion and the number-theoretic Möbius function as special cases.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
