Moishezon manifold
Builds on Complex manifoldAlgebraic dimension
Definition
Let be a compact, connected complex manifold of dimension , and let be its algebraic dimension. Then is a Moishezon manifold if , that is, if has algebraically independent meromorphic functions.
Remarks
Example: is Moishezon, since are algebraically independent meromorphic functions. More generally, every smooth projective variety of dimension is Moishezon, since its field of rational functions has transcendence degree .
Non-example: the diagonal Hopf surface has dimension but algebraic dimension , so it is not Moishezon.
Since by Siegel's theorem, Moishezon manifolds are those with the largest possible algebraic dimension. Equivalently, is Moishezon if and only if it is bimeromorphic to a projective manifold. A Moishezon manifold is projective if and only if it admits a Kähler metric, so non-projective Moishezon manifolds are never Kähler.
