Morrey–Campanato space
Definition
Let be a bounded open set with diameter , let and let . For and put , where is the open ball of radius about . For let be the mean value of over .
- The Morrey space is the set of in the Lebesgue space with
- The Campanato space is the set of with
The norms are plus the -th root of the supremum.
Remarks
Example: let be the unit ball of , let and let . The function is radially decreasing, so its integral over a ball of radius is largest for the ball centred at . That integral equals for a constant . Hence with .
Non-example: if , then is not in . Indeed grows like as , and this tends to infinity. In fact for , by the Lebesgue differentiation theorem.
Further facts:
- , and .
- is a space of functions of bounded mean oscillation.
- If has Lipschitz boundary and , then equals the space of Hölder continuous functions with exponent (Campanato's theorem).
- If and is connected, then contains only the constant functions.
