Morrey quasiconvexity

Summary

A function ff on m×nm \times n matrices is quasiconvex in the sense of Morrey if perturbations with zero boundary values never help. That is, the average of f(ξ+∇φ)f(\xi + \nabla \varphi) is never below f(ξ)f(\xi). Under suitable growth conditions on ff, it is exactly the condition under which ∫Ωf(∇u) dx\int_\Omega f(\nabla u) \, dx is weakly lower semicontinuous on Sobolev spaces of vector-valued maps. It lies between polyconvexity and rank-one convexity. It coincides with convexity when m=1m = 1 or n=1n = 1. It is a different notion from the quasiconvex functions of optimisation, which are defined by convex sublevel sets.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
