Number of divisors

Builds on Divisor functionDivisors of a natural number

Definition

For a positive integer nn, the number of divisors of nn is d(n)=σ0(n)=#D(n)d(n) = \sigma_0(n) = \# D(n). Here σ0\sigma_0 is the divisor function with k=0k = 0, and D(n)D(n) is the set of divisors of nn.

Remarks

Other common notations are τ(n)\tau(n) and σ0(n)\sigma_0(n). If n=p1e1⋯prern = p_1^{e_1} \cdots p_r^{e_r} with distinct primes pip_i, then d(n)=(e1+1)⋯(er+1)d(n) = (e_1 + 1) \cdots (e_r + 1). For example, 12=22⋅312 = 2^2 \cdot 3, so d(12)=3⋅2=6d(12) = 3 \cdot 2 = 6. The number d(n)d(n) is odd if and only if nn is a perfect square.

What this page needs for W2

  • edge instance_of in: one example (0 of 1)
  • edge not_instance_of in: one non-example that fails one clause (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
