(p,q)-form
Definition
Let be an open set, with coordinates . Consider complex-valued differential forms on , and put and . For increasing tuples and of elements of , write and . Let be integers. A -form on is a differential form where the sum runs over increasing tuples and each is a smooth function.
Remarks
The forms with form a basis of the complex -th exterior power of the cotangent space at each point. So every complex -form is, in a unique way, a sum of -forms with . Example: on is a -form, with and all other coefficients zero. Non-example: is a -form whose and parts are both nonzero, so it is not a -form for any . A holomorphic change of coordinates gives with no terms, so the type is preserved; thus -forms are defined on complex manifolds. The space of -forms on is often written .
