Builds on Interpolation spaceBanach spaceInfimum
Definition
Let be a compatible couple of Banach spaces. So both are continuously embedded in a common Hausdorff topological vector space, and the sum is defined. For and , the Peetre K-functional is the infimum
Remarks
Example: take with the absolute value. For a split the cost is , and putting all of in the cheaper space attains this, so .
Non-example: the K-functional is only defined on . For inside the space of all sequences, the sequence has no split at all, so is not defined there.
For each , the function is nondecreasing and concave, and is the norm of in . For and , the real interpolation space consists of the for which lies in . In approximation theory one takes and the Sobolev space , measured by the seminorm . Then the quantity is bounded above and below by constant multiples of the modulus of smoothness for small .

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
