Reduced row echelon form

Builds on Row echelon form

Definition

Let FF be a field and let AA be a matrix over FF. The matrix AA is in reduced row echelon form when these three conditions hold:

  1. AA is in row echelon form.
  2. The leading entry of each nonzero row is 11.
  3. In each column that has a leading entry, all the other entries are 00.

Remarks

The matrix (120001000)\begin{pmatrix} 1 & 2 & 0 \\ 0 & 0 & 1 \\ 0 & 0 & 0 \end{pmatrix} is in reduced row echelon form. Each matrix is row equivalent to exactly one matrix in reduced row echelon form. Gauss–Jordan elimination computes this matrix. The number of nonzero rows of the reduced row echelon form of AA is the rank of AA.

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
