Definition
Let be a lattice with join and meet and . For in , write . A relative complement of in is an element such that The lattice is relatively complemented if for all in , every element of has a relative complement in .
Remarks
Equivalently, every interval of is a complemented lattice with least element and greatest element . A relatively complemented lattice with a least and a greatest element is complemented.
Example: the lattice of all subsets of a set . For , the set satisfies and .
Non-example: the pentagon lattice N5 with and incomparable to and . It is complemented, but the interval is the chain , in which has no complement.
A complemented modular lattice is relatively complemented: if is a complement of and , then is a relative complement of in .

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
