Integral equations Iteration and the resolvent kernel Concept

Resolvent kernel

Summary

The resolvent kernel R(x,s;λ)R(x, s; \lambda) of a kernel KK gives the solution of the integral equation of the second kind φ=f+λKφ\varphi = f + \lambda K \varphi. The solution is φ(x)=f(x)+λ∫abR(x,s;λ)f(s) ds\varphi(x) = f(x) + \lambda \int_a^b R(x, s; \lambda) f(s) \, ds. For small ∣λ∣\abs{\lambda} it is the sum ∑n≥1λn−1Kn\sum_{n \ge 1} \lambda^{n-1} K_n of the iterated kernels. It thus inverts the operator I−λKI - \lambda K once and for all, for every right side ff. For a continuous kernel it extends to a meromorphic function of λ\lambda, whose poles are characteristic values of KK.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
