Harmonic analysis on Euclidean spaces Definition
Short-time Fourier transform
Definition
Let be a nonzero function, the window, and let (see Lp space). The short-time Fourier transform of with respect to is the function , for (time) and (frequency).
Remarks
The integral converges absolutely, since is integrable by the Cauchy–Schwarz inequality. So is the Fourier transform of . In inner product form, , where and . Moyal's formula states . The squared modulus is the spectrogram. In engineering texts the variable often denotes angular frequency, and the kernel is .
Example: let . For , the product is the indicator of , so . For the supports are disjoint and .
Non-example: with the constant window , which is not in , the formula gives for every . It carries no time information, and this choice is excluded by the definition.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
