Geometry Theorem

Side-side-side congruence

Builds on Congruent trianglesEuclidean distance

Statement

Let ABCABC and A′B′C′A'B'C' be triangles in the Euclidean space ℝn\mathbb{R}^n, and let dd be the Euclidean distance. Then ABCABC and A′B′C′A'B'C' are congruent if and only if d(A,B)=d(A′,B′),d(B,C)=d(B′,C′)andd(C,A)=d(C′,A′).d(A, B) = d(A', B'), \quad d(B, C) = d(B', C') \quad \text{and} \quad d(C, A) = d(C', A').

Remarks

Other criteria for congruence are side-angle-side, angle-side-angle and angle-angle-side. Side-side-angle is not a criterion: two sides and an angle that is not between them can fit two different triangles. Angle-angle-angle is not a criterion either. Triangles with equal angles are similar, but they can have different sizes.

Reading path

To understand this page from the ground up, read these 3 pages in order. The foundations come first.

Each page uses the pages above it. The colour of the bar on a box shows how strong the evidence is, and the box also gives it as text. The list has the same pages.

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
