Builds on Catalan numbersBinary treePentagon lattice N5Modular lattice
Example
Let , and consider the ways to fully parenthesize a product of factors. There are of them, where is the -th Catalan number. A rotation replaces a subexpression by , where , , are subexpressions. The Tamari order sets when can be reached from by a finite sequence of rotations.
For there are bracketings of . From the least element to the greatest element there are two routes: These are all the relations, so is the pentagon , with a route of two steps beside a route of three steps.
Remarks
Each is a lattice. Since is the pentagon lattice, the Tamari lattices are not modular in general. Bracketings of factors correspond to binary trees with internal nodes, and a rotation is the tree rotation used in balanced search trees. The Hasse diagram of is the graph of the associahedron.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
