Trigonometric interpolation
Builds on Trigonometric polynomial
Definition
Let and let be real numbers that are pairwise distinct modulo . Let be complex numbers. The trigonometric interpolation polynomial for these data is the unique trigonometric polynomial of degree at most such that for . Trigonometric interpolation is the construction of from the data.
Remarks
Existence and uniqueness: the conditions form a square linear system in . Let have degree at most and vanish at all . With , the function is an ordinary polynomial of degree at most in . It has the distinct roots , so . Hence the system has a unique solution. If all are real, then and is real-valued.
For equally spaced nodes , the coefficients are a discrete Fourier transform of the data.
Example: , nodes and values . The formula gives , so . Check: and .
Non-example: the nodes and are equal modulo , so they are not allowed. The data , cannot be met by any -periodic function.
With an even number of nodes one uses trigonometric polynomials of degree with a constraint on the top frequency, such as a cosine term only.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
