Valuation on convex bodies

Summary

A valuation on convex bodies is a function φ\varphi on the nonempty compact convex sets of ℝn\R^n that is additive in the inclusion–exclusion sense. This means φ(K∪L)+φ(K∩L)=φ(K)+φ(L)\varphi(K \cup L) + \varphi(K \cap L) = \varphi(K) + \varphi(L) whenever K∪LK \cup L is convex. Volume, surface area, the Euler characteristic and all intrinsic volumes are valuations. Valuations are the finitely additive "measures" of convex geometry, and their classification, starting with Hadwiger's theorem, is a central theme of integral geometry. This notion is unrelated to valuations of fields in algebra.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
