Variational capacity

Summary

Let KK be a compact set inside an open set Ω⊆ℝn\Omega \subseteq \R^n, and let 1<p<∞1 < p < \infty. The variational capacity, or pp-capacity, of KK is the least pp-Dirichlet energy ∫Ω∣∇u∣p dx\int_\Omega \abs{\nabla u}^p \, dx of a suitable function uu. Here uu is smooth, at least 11 on KK, and zero near the boundary of Ω\Omega. For p=2p = 2 it is the classical condenser capacity. It is the natural measure of size in nonlinear potential theory and for the pp-Laplace equation. Sets of pp-capacity zero are the sets that Sobolev functions with pp-integrable gradient cannot see.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
