Finite-dimensional vector space

Builds on Spanning set

Definition

Let FF be a field and let VV be a vector space over FF. The space VV is finite-dimensional when it has a finite spanning set. Otherwise VV is infinite-dimensional.

Remarks

A finite-dimensional space has a finite basis, because every spanning set contains a basis. The spaces FnF^n and Mm×n(F)M_{m \times n}(F) are finite-dimensional. The polynomial ring F[x]F[x] is infinite-dimensional: finitely many polynomials have a bounded degree, so they do not span F[x]F[x]. Each subspace of a finite-dimensional space is finite-dimensional.

Each page uses the pages above it. The colour of the bar on a box shows how strong the evidence is, and the box also gives it as text. The list has the same pages.

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
