Fractional iteration

Summary

Fractional iteration extends the iterates fnf^n of a map ff from whole numbers nn to real numbers t≥0t \ge 0. One asks for maps ftf^t with f0=id⁡f^0 = \id, f1=ff^1 = f and fs∘ft=fs+tf^s \circ f^t = f^{s+t}, so that ff becomes the time-one map of a flow. Then f1/nf^{1/n} is an iterative root of order nn of ff. The main tools are Schröder's equation and the Abel equation, which turn iteration into multiplication or into addition.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
