Having a gradient
Builds on Differentiable function of several variablesEuclidean space
Definition
Let be open, let , let , and let . The function has the gradient at when where the limit is over with . Equivalently, is differentiable at and for each .
Remarks
This definition states a property of , and . When it holds, the vector is unique, and it is the gradient . The same definition works in each real inner product space, with the inner product in place of the dot product.
