Definition
Let be an open set containing , and let be holomorphic with . Let and assume . Let be a neighbourhood of on which the iterates of are defined and tend to . The Koenigs function of is the function given by where is the -th iterate of .
Remarks
The limit exists, uniformly near , and is holomorphic with and . It solves Schröder's equation , since replacing by shifts the index by one. It is the unique solution with these normalisations, by the Koenigs linearization theorem.
Example: on the unit disc, with . For one has . So , and since and as , the limit of is .
Non-example: for one has , so the quotient is not defined, and has no Koenigs function.
When is a univalent holomorphic map of the unit disc into itself with and , the limit exists on the whole disc and is univalent there.
