Builds on WaveletContinuous wavelet transformAdmissibility condition for wavelets
Example
Fix a parameter and put . The Morlet wavelet is the complex-valued function where is the constant that makes . It is a plane wave under a Gaussian envelope, with a small correction term.
Check of the zero mean. Since and , the integral of is . Its Fourier transform is a combination of two Gaussians and vanishes at frequency . Together with the Gaussian decay, this gives the admissibility condition, so can be used in the continuous wavelet transform.
Remarks
The correction is tiny when is large; for it is below , and in practice it is often dropped. Without the correction, the function has nonzero integral, so it is not admissible in the strict sense. The Morlet wavelet does not generate an orthonormal basis; it is used for the continuous transform and for time–frequency analysis of signals. Its real part is even and its imaginary part is odd. Since the wavelet is complex-valued, the modulus of the transform gives an amplitude and the argument gives a phase.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
