Picard operator
Definition
Let , let and let . Let be a function such that is integrable on for each continuous . The Picard operator of at maps a continuous curve to the curve given by
Remarks
Assume the Picard–Lindelöf hypotheses with constants . Then maps the continuous curves with values in the closed ball to curves in this ball. A fixed point of is a solution of the initial value problem. See the integral equation form. Picard iteration applies again and again, starting from the constant curve .
