Definition
Let be an open set containing , and let be holomorphic with . Let . Poincaré's functional equation for is the functional equation The unknown is a holomorphic function on a neighbourhood of with and .
Remarks
Example: has and . The function satisfies , and .
Non-example: for the same , the function fails, since for .
If is a solution of Schröder's equation with and , then its local inverse solves Poincaré's equation. So for a unique solution exists, by the Koenigs linearization theorem applied to . Assume moreover that is entire. Then the formula , with so large that lies in the domain of , extends to an entire function. This function is the Poincaré function of at .
