Harmonic analysis on Euclidean spaces Definition
Rademacher functions

Definition
Let be an integer. The -th Rademacher function is given by where . At the finitely many other points of , its value is fixed so that is right-continuous. Equivalently, , where is the binary expansion of that does not end in an infinite run of s. The family is the Rademacher system.
Remarks
The Rademacher system is orthonormal in (see Lp space). It is not complete: the product has norm and is orthogonal to every . Under Lebesgue measure on , the are independent random variables, each equal to or with probability .
Example: equals on and and on and . Check: exactly for .
Non-example: the function is a square wave on . Its sign changes are at and , not at dyadic points, so it is not a Rademacher function.
