Example
Fix a width . The Ricker wavelet, also called the Mexican hat wavelet, is Up to a negative constant factor, it is the second derivative of the Gaussian .
Check of the zero mean, with . Since and , the integral of is . Check of the norm, with . The integral of is , and multiplying by gives . The general case follows by the substitution .
Remarks
The Fourier transform of is a constant times . It vanishes to second order at , so satisfies the admissibility condition and has two vanishing moments: and , while . It does not generate an orthonormal basis; it is used in the continuous wavelet transform. In two variables, the analogous function is the negative Laplacian of a Gaussian, which detects blobs and edges in images. The Ricker wavelet is also a standard model of a seismic source pulse.

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
