Givens rotation
Builds on RotationOrthogonal matrixIdentity matrix
Definition
Let , let , and let be real numbers with . The Givens rotation is the real matrix that agrees with the identity matrix except in the four entries Writing and , it is the rotation by the angle in the plane of the coordinates and .
Remarks
is an orthogonal matrix with determinant . For , the product changes only the entries and : and . If , put , and ; then and . Example: for in , , , , and . Non-example: the matrix with in these four places is not a Givens rotation, since , and it is not orthogonal. Other books put in position instead; the two conventions differ by the sign of .

What this page needs for W1
- an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
- a source with a locator (0 of 1)
The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
