Functions of a complex variable Definition
Möbius transformation
Builds on Riemann sphere
Definition
Let be complex numbers with . The Möbius transformation with these coefficients is the map of the Riemann sphere to itself given by for each with . The map also has the following values. If , then and . If , then .
Remarks
Each Möbius transformation is a bijection of , and its inverse is the Möbius transformation . The Möbius transformations form a group under composition, the Möbius group. The coefficients with give the same map. If , the formula gives a constant or is undefined, so it is not a Möbius transformation.
