Definition
Let be a function and let . For let be the -th forward difference of at with step . For let , with . The Newton series of at is the series viewed as a series of functions of .
Remarks
Example: for and , for all , so the Newton series is . This is the binomial series of at , which converges to for real . Non-example: is the Taylor series of at , not its Newton series. The Newton series of at has coefficients , and since it diverges at every real that is not a natural number. At with , only the terms with are nonzero, and the sum is by Newton's forward difference formula.
