Newtonian kernel

Summary

The Newtonian kernel on ℝn\R^n, for n≥3n \ge 3, is the function k(x,y)=∣x−y∣2−nk(x, y) = \abs{x - y}^{2-n} of two points. In space it is 1/∣x−y∣1/\abs{x - y}, the potential at xx of a unit mass at yy in Newton's law of gravitation. It is a constant multiple of the fundamental solution of the Laplacian translated to the pole yy. Integrating it against a measure gives the Newtonian potential, the central object of classical potential theory in higher dimensions.

What this page needs for W1

  • an inventory row: the row of the inventory that the node accounts for (0 of 1)
  • a source with a locator (0 of 1)

The writing levels say how complete the text of a page is. They do not measure its truth.
