Uniform metric on bounded functions
Example
Let be a nonempty set. Let be the set of bounded functions , that is, the functions for which there is a real with for all . For , let Then is a metric on , the uniform metric.
Remarks
The supremum is finite, because and both functions are bounded. A sequence converges to in this metric if and only if uniformly on . For , it is the sup metric on R^n. It is for the sup norm.
