Unimodular group
Definition
Let be a locally compact group with modular function . The group is unimodular if for every . Equivalently, every left Haar measure on is also right-invariant: for every and every Borel set .
Remarks
Example: every compact group is unimodular. The modular function is a continuous homomorphism, so is a compact subgroup of . The only compact subgroup of is , so .
Non-example: the group of maps with and has modular function , which is not identically .
Every abelian group is unimodular, since for all . Every discrete group is unimodular, since counting measure is invariant on both sides. On a unimodular group, for every integrable .
